CHOPHOUSE P.R.

CHOPHOUSE P.R.

The Chophouse in Guaynabo, P.R. openned its doors in 2017. I was hired to develop the restaurant's identity as well as some of the aesthetics inside the two-story locale.

Logo, signage, menus and promotional materials were created, but one of the biggest challenges was developing artwork for a massive 20 ft wall visible from both levels inside the restaurant. The owner had a passion for photography, so I decided to explore that direction in order to give the space some warmth and a personal touch. I came across an original photograph taken by him of a beautiful tree, a vision of it displayed on the large wall close to real size immediately came to mind. "Chopping" the tree onto 8 canvases while maintaining the flow of the tree throughout the negative space was the way I chose to display this massive yet subtle decorative element. I then turned the picture into vector shapes in order to scale the image while maintaining sharp edges that seem like an abstract painting when seen up close, revealing the full image when seen from a distance. Once ready for production, I found a great local printshop that followed my designed instructions for printing and assembly perfectly. I was very pleased with the end result, a lot of measuring, scaling and good ol' mathematics went in to the production of this piece and the fact that assembly went just as planned made it all worth the time spent on this development stage.

Highly acclaimed, it became a staple for high-end Asian fusion cuisine in the island. The restaurant had a short-lived successful run, then the pandemic took place forcing it to close it's doors in 2022.
